Today we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Easter - Good Shepherd Sunday. In our Gospel reading at Mass, Christ presents himself as the Good Shepherd and the Gate of the Sheepfold. He tells his listeners of the love and care that he has for them; this includes us today as members of his Church.

This Sunday, we are also reminded that, as he prepared to ascend to the Father, Jesus entrusted a role of care and leadership to his apostles. The ministry originally given to the apostles is continued today in Church by bishops, priests and deacons who are called to serve God and his people in a special way.

We are invited to join the universal Church in praying for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life throughout the world. May God strengthen those he calls and fill them with a generous spirit to respond in love and service of his people
